Out of First UMC El Centro, Rev. Dr. Ron Griffen and his congregation house the Olive Street Community Center providing resources for the immigrant community. Through the Olive Street Community Center we provide English and citizenship classes, nutrition information in conjunction with the Imperial Valley Food Bank, PFLAG counseling groups, monthly legal services, and a quarterly community resource fair that brings social service organizations together to offer their services to the community.
We are also raising funds to become the only Justice For Our Neighbors (JFON) site in the Southwest United States, a UM hospitality ministry that welcomes immigrants by providing affordable, high-quality immigration legal services to low-income immigrants and offers education to the public. To donate to the JFON ministry, please visit our GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/j2fyugus.
Volunteers are always needed to help with outreach ministries including but not limited to hospitality at our monthly and quarterly events, practicing conversational English, children’s activities, and various building maintenance projects. For more information visit http://firstumcec.com/.
